Jim did a day-long workshop for Wisconsin Career Development Association’s spring 2016 professional development institute. Jim was easy to work with and he responded to our request to design sessions that would allow participants to leave with tangible exercises for students/clients. The morning session on Planned Happenstance theory combined an overview of the theory with practical exercises for incorporation into career counseling and advising.

In the afternoon, Jim did a session on card sorts focusing specifically on Dick Knowdell’s Motivated Skills card sort. For those new to card sorts it provided a new tool or set of tools to tap. And for those familiar with card sorts, new techniques for using them were introduced.

In addition to the excellent sessions, Jim also led participants in a lunch-time activity to help us realize our strengths and weaknesses as an organization. Both new and long-time members all felt they had a say in how to grow WCDA. Attendees left with new skills and feeling re-energized.
